"The unlikely rise and tacky decline of Hot Ones" - My Thoughts

This article (The unlikely rise and tacky decline of Hot Ones by Louis Chilton) was interesting in that I have shared the opinion that the show has grown stale since it first blew on onto the scene years ago. The formula was at first very fresh and exciting, but all things must come to an end and so to must this show, at least in the form we currently know it as. Although there are still occasional episodes that break the mold some way or feature a great guest with lots of charisma, the cookie cutter format of the show is getting too predictable. I appreciated the authors take on the rise of the show, explaining that part of its current downfall can be owed to the "corporatization" of the show with bigger guests and bigger budgets. These extra resources allowed for more recognizable names to be on the show but didn't do anything to spice things up. Chilton makes a great point when he noted that the witty, clever, and very human interviews where slowly superseded by gimmicky attention grabs, further owing to the decline of the show at least in quality. Overall, I appreciated the authors thorough understanding of the show and succinct analysis of it's meteoric rise and subsequent downfall. Although the topic of the article was somewhat negative, being about a show's "downfall", I found it refreshing that the author was careful not to come across as too overzealous or disrespectful, like a vulture feeding on roadkill.
